If you are planning to move to Spain for several months or even definitively you may find this article interesting.

In order to enjoy your life in Spain and to feel truly at home, it is necessary, upon your arrival, to carry out some compulsory steps.

To make your arrival easier and to guarantee you a good installation on the Spanish territory, Bonjour Barcelona, accompanies you throughout all the steps.

The essential steps:

1) The NIE/TIE: Obtaining your NIE/TIE (Foreigner Identification Number) will allow you to open a bank account, find a job, or subscribe to certain Spanish telephone subscriptions, etc. This number is personal, and allows you to be officially registered in the register of foreigners living in Spain. It is not a national identity document, but you will be asked for it in every administrative procedure.

2) The Padrón: First of all, you will need to find your accommodation. Once you have settled in, you must register with your municipality,, this procedure is called the “empadronamiento”. This registration is free and compulsory. It will allow you to prove your address in your next administrative procedures.

3) Social security number: Once you have your NIE, the next step is to obtain your social security number. This number is essential when you work in Spain.

4) Bank account: You will need to open a bank account in Spain in order to be able to pay your bills (telephone, gas, water…). For this you will need to present your identity card/passport and your NIE

5) Driving in Spain: Finally, the homologation of your foreign driving licence (issued outside Spain) as well as the change of your licence plates will be required quickly after your arrival.
